Marie Devino - 61, On the evening of March 6, 2016, Marie Devino went into the hands of the Lord. She was hospitalized with complications from a stroke and heart attack at Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel, NJ. She was 61 years old.
Marie was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1954, the only child of Stamos Angelus and Garifalo Mellas.
She grew up in Union Beach then later graduated from Keyport High School. After graduation, Marie went on to a successful 35-year career at AT&T, Holmdel. Her many awards include; the AT&T Service Excellence Award.
Marie’s service to her community included volunteering with the Deborah Hospital Foundation.
She served her church as the the Corresponding Secretary of the Executive Board, the Ladies Philoptochos Society Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church and was their choir director. Through her years of service she received the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Community Service Award and was awarded the Eastern Federation of Greek Orthodox Choirs and Musicians: 25 Years of Service Award.
When Marie set out to do something it was done with a great deal of passion and attention to detail. She surrounded herself with people she admired and always brought fun to any project. She loved ceramics, shopping and camping with her cousins Nick and Maria. Entertaining friends with her specialty backyard BBQ’s and baked goods brought joy to her home. Many of her fondest memories were the travels she had experienced with her husband Michael.
Marie Devino was preceded in death by her father, Stamos Angelus, Grandparents; Konstandino and Maria Kapandais, her loving husband, Michael Devino. Aunts and Uncles; Sophia (John) Johnson, Angelina Salvatore, George Kapandais, cousin Dino Lambros, John Kapandais (John) and Michael (Joan), Devino (father-in-law) and his brother Frank (Connie) Devino.
Marie is survived by her mother, Garifalo Mellas, Aunt, Katie Kapandais, and cousins; Tom Johnson, Betty (Jerry) Wolack, Michael (Judy) Kapandais and their children Noelle, Arianna and Michael, Kathy (Floyd) Kapandais, Maria (Blaine) Mason and their son Jeremy. Also, her brother, John Wargo, Goddaughter and cousins; Nick (Debbie) Angelus, Renee (Richard) Lewis and their children.
Marie will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748. On March 10, 2016 Thursday from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm as well as Friday morning at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Church from 10 – 11am. Mass will be held on Friday March 11, 2016 at 11am, interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
